The Halton Hills Speech Centre believes very strongly in supporting the local community as well as international endeavors that promote professional growth and the well-being of children. Over the years, this has ranged from support of local sports teams, mentoring of high school/university students as well as foreign trained Speech Pathology students and participation in partnerships to promote increased awareness of speech and language difficulties.
In the last four years, some of the local involvement has included:

  • Sponsorship of Halton Hills soccer teams (1998-2009)
  • Sponsorship of the local gymnastics club
  • Support to the local women’s hockey team
  • Assisted the surrounding libraries to access free videotapes from the Stuttering Foundation of America
  • Participation with the local High School to provide placement of Co-op students interested in speech pathology or a related field
  • Participation in the Georgetown Children's Fall Fair Contest
  • Support to local schools to obtain literacy materials for the kindergarden programs
  • Provide presentations to local middle schools on the effects of Noise Induced Hearing Loss through the Sound Sense Program
  • Participation in international Rehabilitation Medicine Missions to Haiti

The Halton Hills Speech Centre has also been able to expand our involvement beyond our local community by

  • Sponsorship of three Speech Pathology students from Holland. They were able to come to Canada for a three month joint research project with the Centre and the Holland Christian Homes, Inc., a senior's complex in Brampton.
