Director Karen MacKenzie-Stepner took part of Team Canada Healing Hands Rehabilitation Medicine Mission to Haiti in April and November 2007.

Halton Hills can be proud - two colleagues have joined together to participate in a Canadian medical mission to Haiti, April 17 to 24... and are looking for your support. Eric Doubt, President, Communication Associates and Karen MacKenzie-Stepner, President, Halton Hills Speech Centre have signed up with Team Canada of Healing Hands for Haiti, an international NGO specializing in delivering rehabilitation medicine and education to the people of Haiti.

Eric and Karen are seeking the support of their friends, families, colleagues and the community to fund their volunteer initiative. This is Eric's second mission to Haiti and Karen's first. Each team member contributes their skills and holiday time and is required to self-finance or fund raise $1900.00 to cover travel to and from and within Haiti, accommodation, food, emergency and administrative costs. Members personally cover an additional several hundred dollars for pre-travel shots and medications, insurance and any personal expenses or private travel.

Our team is headed by Dr. Colleen O'Connell, a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation MD from Fredericton, NB. The team of 21 is comprised of two MDs, a nurse, physio, occupational and speech pathologists, a dietician, prosthetist and orthotist, a translator and support personnel.

Eric will be helping with translation, logistics and, as Editor of the international newsletter and a member of the marketing committee, documenting the organization's fieldwork. As an experienced speech language pathologist and manager, Karen will be doing clinical assessments, workshops and teaching local personnel.

The team will be traveling to a number of remote clinics and orphanages and will work at the medical facility at HHH headquarters in Port au Prince. We will also deliver thousands of pounds of donated medical equipment and supplies including wheel chairs, speech language pathology tools and children's educational toys.

With your help we hope to continue and grow our involvement with this wonderful humanitarian organization and its dedication to a neighbour country with little infrastructure and almost non -existent medical resources for its people.

How you can help us get to Haiti:
